Midas Launches Tokenized U.S. Treasury Bill on Algorand for European Retail Investors
Midas, a German-origin tokenization protocol, has introduced mTBILL, a tokenized U.S. Treasury bill, on the Algorand blockchain. The product offers European retail investors access to yield-bearing government bonds with no minimum investment, contrasting sharply with institutional offerings like BlackRock’s BUIDL, which requires $5 million.
The mTBILL, representing a tokenized certificate referencing short-term U.S. Treasury ETFs, currently yields 4.06%. Algorand’s energy-efficient, quantum-secure infrastructure underpins the initiative, which aims to democratize access to stable, interest-bearing digital assets. A $2 million atomic swap involving mTBILL and USDC was executed on May 27, marking a milestone for Algorand’s DeFi ecosystem.
